Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on the 20th of October 1964. She is an American politician. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president, and is also the highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
